Where to Travel After a Breakup? The 5 Best Places

A friend of mine broke up with her boyfriend in recent weeks and told me how sad she was. I told her to go on a trip to chill out. She asked me to suggest a place to get rid of the pain of break up. 🙂 I really liked this question and I decided to think about it, research it a bit and write an article that will be useful for everyone. I have read somewhere before that the effects of separation on our mood consist of five phases and I thought different places would be better for our mood according to each stage. Therefore, I tried to select a different route for each phase. Of course, there is no obligation that all those who break up, will go through these stages in order, but you can plan according to the stage you feel yourself at. I wish a happy relationship for everyone but in case you need suggestions for where to travel after breakup, this article will help. 😉

The first stage after the separation is Denial: After the separation, people usually choose to ignore the situation at first. like “there is something wrong with this, the greatest relationship in the world cannot end”, somehow they think that their partner will come back to them tomorrow. It is useful to be together with friends during this period of ignoring. Make a short plan with a few close friends and think as if you are having a little getaway as if you haven’t broke up with your lover. This will make you look strong in the eyes of the your partner, and you will spend some time with your favorite friends. It would be appropriate to make the trip on a close route for two or three days. Thus, it will be easy to convince your friends in terms of time and money. I don’t know what you will think, but if you’re in Europe, you should go somewhere in Italy, I think it is guaranteed that you will have so much fun.

The second, and to me the most dangerous stage is Anger: At this stage, people start to feel incredible anger towards the person they broke up with. They start to remeber all the bad memories that happened throughout the relationship and if they cannot control themselves, they send angry messages. I think this part is a bit dangerous because even if the relationship is going to survive, things get harder and the respect factor begins to disappear. The result of every act made in anger, turns into an event where we hurt ourselves, which later creates regret. I think it’s best to go to a place where our minds are completely away from this break up, in order to get through this phase in the lightest way, and even to be in a place where the phone is not receiving. For this, I recommend you to take a look at the digital detox hotels and tours that are becoming a new trend. I cannot recommend a single place for this, you can find a place according to your budget and interests. To give a few examples; Egypt live-aboard tours, Antarctica discovery tours, Patagonia trekking tours, Vythiri Resort in Kerala etc.

The third stage is Bargaining: This stage is the period in which the people negotiate with themselves, their ex-partner, and even with God in order to save their relationship. If he/she returns to me, I will not look at anyone other than my love from now on, I will always be well-groomed from now on, I will start sports, I will buy gifts for her or I will not forget our special days etc. In this period, while your bargaining skills are so strong, I advice you to go somewhere where you can make use of it. How about Morocco? With your bargaining potential, you can get everything for one-third the price. 😛 Just joking but Morocco is really such beautiful and interesting place that you won’t even get the chance to think about your old relationship. You can travel on camels in the Sahara desert, stay at a camp in the middle of the desert at night, explore the blue city of Chefchaouen, visit the famous tanneries in Fes, climb the Atlas mountains and go on many other adventures.

Stage 4 Depression: When negotiations fail, the new psychological stage that awaits people is depression. At this stage, a state of intense unhappiness and inability to enjoy life begins. As if you didn’t have a life before your partner, it’s possible to think that it is meaningless to live after breakup. At this point, I think the best thing to do is to try to find yourself again. And if you want to find yourself, I don’t think of a better place than Bali. Temples, yoga centers, the calming atmosphere created by its magnificent nature and extreme sports with high adrenaline levels such as diving and surfing are waiting for you to clear your mind and re-discover yourself. Turn off your phone and get away from where you live, meet the locals and try to get to know their different cultures. You can find all these and even more in Bali, and you can take a huge step to get out of your depression. Moreover, since Bali is a cheap place, you do not need to get into financial depression to overcome the depression of breakup.

The fifth and final stage is Acceptance: You are now entering a period where you will accept the breakup and focus on your new life. A magnificent city like Rio de Janeiro will definitely be useful to erase the last few memories in your mind. In Rio de Janeiro, you can surf, learn salsa and participate in crazy parties. There are many activities to do in the city, but if you visit the natural beauties around, I am sure you will find a lot of peace. For example, be sure to visit the fascinating Iguazu Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil. If you are a sea lover, immerse yourself in the turquoise waters of the island of Ilha Grande. I think after Rio, you will come back to your life with a completely fresh mind.

Bonus: Now that you have successfully overcome all stages, you are ready for a new relationship. Then let’s send you to the Matchmaking Festival. 😀 I just heard about the existence of the festival held in Ireland while I was preparing this article, but it has been held every year for more than 150 years.

If you have a friend who has just brokeup with their partner, share this article with them. If you are the one who broke up, first of all I hope you get well soon, but remember, you are the most valuable thing in your life. You should stop worrying and find something to comfort yourself. I think the best consolation you can give yourself to get through this period will be a new trip. If there is a place where you have been dreaming of going for many years, ignore all of the above suggestions and go there, you’ll see how it makes you happy. I wish you a great trip with lots of fun already! If you have experience in this matter, please share it in the comments.

PS: In this article, I did not use our own photoson purpose because I did not want to send wrong energy to the universe. 🙂
